Our graduates
Basic undergraduate phase
In semesters 1 to 4, students receive a basic insight into the main study contents of the art of speech, voice training, media speaking, and rhetoric. In addition to practical subjects such as body work, breathing and voice training, scene and improvisation training, theoretical foundations are acquired in subjects such as German studies, speech science, anatomy, and phonetics. In regular individual lessons in the main subject, singing, and media speaking, students work intensively on their individual development.
The main focus of the entire course of study is the main subject speech arts. The teaching offer is supplemented by workshops with internationally renowned guest lecturers. Already during their studies, students participate in artistic projects of the Studio for Speech Arts, which are also presented outside the university. The basic undergraduate phase concludes after 4 semesters with the artistic speech intermediate examination.
Advanced undergraduate phase
During their advanced undergraduate phase, students acquire teaching skills in voice training as part of their practical education. In addition, depending on their abilities, interests, and professional goals, they choose their additional study focus:
Choosing the Speech Arts / Singing Profile allows students to focus on artistic speaking on stage. They expand their knowledge in various performance forms such as recitation, moderation, chanson/cabaret, and readings. They receive individual instruction in speech art, singing, scene, and acting.
By selecting the Spoken Media Profile, students concentrate on speaking in front of a microphone. Through individual instruction, they develop competencies in all areas of audiovisual media: radio hosting, news reporting, voice-overs, dubbing, feature presentations, commentary, podcasts, quoting, audiobooks, and radio plays.
In the Rhetorical Communication Profile, students expand their basic skills and knowledge in speech and conversational rhetoric over the following four semesters. They also enhance their abilities in politics, economics, and culture in a rhetorical context. In addition to communication within change processes, moderation, and mediation, they receive didactic-methodological training and gain practical experience for their future work as communication trainers.
In the Speech Training Profile, students enhance their skills in independently teaching individual students and groups. They learn voice and speech analysis, how to design their own teaching units, and explore the role of the instructor and speaking in the classroom.
Additionally, during their advanced undergraduate phase, students complete a 6-week internship providing them with initial exposure to the professional field. They can also begin building their network during this period, which will facilitate their entry into the workforce later on.
At the end of their studies, students write a scholarly reflection on a topic related to oral communication of their choice. As part of their graduation, students present a public 40-minute solo performance showcasing the diversity of their speaking and vocal expression skills acquired during their studies. A platform for artistic speech and performance art is provided by the Studio for Speech Arts, where theatrical readings, recitations, and live radio plays are performed.
