AStA – General Student Committee

What is the AStA?

The AStA (The student union) politically represents students both inside and outside the university. It acts as a mediator between the students and the university administration and is made up of students who are elected once a semester by all students. Any student enrolled at the HMDK Stuttgart can be nominated for election. If you are interested, please contact one of the current AStA members.

The AStA is in constant exchange with the Rector, the Chancellor and the administration. It has the right to be heard on administrative decisions and acts in the interest of all students. In addition, the AStA represents the students in the supervisory body of the Studierendenwerk Stuttgart and in the award committee for the Deutschlandstipendium. The AStA members are permanent contacts for all students and future students. In addition, the AStA regularly exchanges information with other AStAs at the LAK (Landes-AStenkonferenz BW), the MuLAK (Musikhochschul-Landes-AStenkonferenz BW), the StuKoM (Studierendenkonferenz der Musikhochschulen in Deutschland) and the networking meeting of Stuttgart universities.

The AStA is also responsible for various activities that enhance your daily lives:

• free opera tickets and tickets for the Liederhalle
• free rental of video cameras and recording equipment
• new ideas for the interior design of the building (e.g. the installation of a relaxation area with loungers, etc.)
• Distribution of lockers
• Help with setting up the university WLAN on your laptops, smartphones, etc.
• Organization of events such as the university party and the first semester program
• Merchandise (e.g. HMDK hoodies)
• Collecting lost property – Have you lost or forgotten an important item? Come by and ask!

We organize regular events, including two student assemblies (Vollversammlung) per semester, international events, university parties, sports days, political information events, university cinema and much more. Come and join us!

Constituted student body

The students of the HMDK Stuttgart have been a constituted student body since December 2013. All enrolled students at the HMDK belong to this body. How this constituted student body is organized can be found in the organizational statutes. Plenary assemblies are held twice a semester and form the legislative body of the constituted student body. All HMDK students may, can and should participate. The four student representatives for the Academic Senate of the HMDK are delegated by the Student Assembly (Vollversammlung).

The student body elects new AStA members every semester, as well as the student faculty councils once a year. Every member of the constituted student body has both the right to vote and the right to stand for election.
