Concert halls of the HMDK
With over 500 opera and theatre performances, symphony, choir, chamber music, and soloist concerts, as well as musicological symposia and lectures, the HMDK Stuttgart significantly shapes the music scene of the state capital and the region through innovation and program diversity. Whether it's Early Music, Classical and Romantic, New and Contemporary Music, Puppetry, Symphony, Opera and Drama, Electronic Music, Jazz, or Organ Playing – our institution brings everything under one roof.
The approximately 80,000 concertgoers experience this program diversity in the attractive concert halls of the Stirling Building in the center of the "Culture Mile": the Concert Hall (418 seats), the Chamber Music Hall (180 seats), and the Orchestra Rehearsal Room (99 seats). As the only German music and theatre university, the HMDK has its own teaching and learning theatre – the Wilhelma Theatre
Sir James Frazer Stirling (1926-1992) was one of the most significant British architects of the 20th century. He is stylistically associated with the postmodern movement. Among his numerous groundbreaking buildings are the Engineering Faculty in Leicester (1959-1963), the New State Gallery and the Chamber Theater in Stuttgart (1979-1984), the Tate Gallery in Liverpool (1984-1988), and the HMDK Stuttgart (1992-1996).
