Studio for Speech Arts
Dramatic Readings, Recitation, and Live Radio Plays
In the Studio for Speech Arts, students from the Institute develop professional speech programs that are performed either within or outside the university. Various forms of staging are explored, including readings, classical recitations, live radio plays, choral speaking, and scenic speaking & acting. The focus is primarily on utilizing poetry and prose from world literature, as well as non-fiction, cabaret and radio texts, essays, dramatic literature, religious texts, or political speeches for the stage.
The conception of projects in small groups or larger ensembles, accompanied by teaching staff, promotes the artistic development of the students. The literary productions are created through interdisciplinary collaboration with students from instrumental areas, vocal classes, performing arts, and studios of the university.
The performances take place on stages, as well as in galleries, churches, or open-air venues. Commissioned works lead to regular collaborations and productions with institutions such as SWR, Literaturhaus Stuttgart, Literaturhaus Marbach, Staatsgalerie Stuttgart, and the small theaters in Baden-Württemberg. During the biweekly "Sprechbühne" at the Studio for Speech Arts, students from the Institute can regularly practice artistic speech in front of an audience. Texts developed in the main subject, as well as independent learning, songs, and speech experiments, find a place here.
