The Vespa language network is a cooperation between Stuttgart Media University, Stuttgart University of Applied Sciences, Stuttgart State Academy of Art and Design and HMDK Stuttgart. Its goal is to provide joint, cross-university language instruction.

Vespa offers various German courses, including an intensive courses during the semester break and semester courses during the lecture period.

Foreign language courses are available in Spanish, French, Chinese, Italian, and Japanese, covering levels from beginner to specialized, based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

In cooperation with the VESPA network, all students and employees of the partner universities can learn English, Spanish, French and German (as a foreign language) online free of charge using the Speexx language learning software.
With the Speexx learning software, you can practise grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation and text comprehension independently of time and place. In addition to the general language courses, there are also business courses to choose from.

When applying for a study program or internship abroad, you are generally required to provide proof of proficiency in the language of the country or the language of instruction. To apply for a DAAD scholarship, you must submit the DAAD form ‘Language Certificate for German Applicants’ or an equivalent language certificate.

At HdM, you can take the DAAD language test for English and Spanish through VESPA. The test is designed to assess your current language level, and there is no risk of failure. You will receive your results immediately after completing the test.

The language test consists of both written and oral components, evaluating the following four skills: Listening comprehension, Reading comprehension, Writing, and Oral proficiency.

The test is conducted by the Language Centre at HdM, lasts approximately 30 minutes, and carries a fee of €50. Registration is required via e-mail.
