Requirements for Employment

Students or academic assistants (tutors) can be employed if they are enrolled in a degree program leading to a university degree. The employment is in temporary positions with less than half of the working hours of civil servants and is allowed for a maximum duration of six years (§ 57 LHG).

The student or academic assistant must not be in the 1st or 2nd semester. The maximum number of semester hours is 8 SWS. In the 3rd or 4th semester, a maximum of 4 SWS can be approved.

The Employment Contract

After receiving your binding acceptance, you will receive an email with all the necessary documents for a tutorship. Please submit the documents as soon as possible, as the employment relationship only comes into effect with the signing of the employment contract, and only then can the salary payment be made.

Your Documentation Responsibilities

As a student, you are required to participate in documenting your working hours. The university provides an Excel spreadsheet for these records. The list must be signed by the responsible institute director. This is based on § 17 Abs.1 S. 1 MiLoG i .V. m. § 1 MiLoAufzV.

Salary

Payment is made at the end of each month by the State Office for Remuneration and Benefits (LBV). Due to the procedural process and associated processing times, it is possible that your first salary may not be included in the end-of-month payment run, even if you signed the application and contract immediately. In that case, you will receive the first salary payment along with the second one.

Maximum Rates of Remuneration for Student or Academic Assistants

Student or academic assistants at the State University of Music and Performing Arts Stuttgart will receive the following remuneration per hour starting from the summer semester 2025:
- Student assistants without a completed university degree: €13.98
- Academic assistants with a Bachelor's degree: €14.87
- Academic assistants with a Master's degree: €20.20
