The Ensemble Forum Alte Musik is made up of students from various classes, alumni, teachers, and guests of the HMDK Stuttgart who feel connected to Early Music and historically informed performance on period instruments. Each semester, projects are carried out that include chamber music from the Renaissance to the Early Classical period.

The ensemble is flexible in its lineup and can perform in formations ranging from duos to larger ensembles. In addition to harpsichord, baroque violin, viola da gamba, vocals, traverso flutes, and recorders, there are also musicians playing rare instruments. For example, the chalumeau (baroque clarinet), theorbo and lute, baroque trombone, gemshorn flutes, or Renaissance traverso consort may be used. The artistic direction is led by Prof. Jörg Halubek.
