Master Jazz-Composition
This course is aimed at students who see composition and arrangement as part of their artistic identity. The subject matter of the course is not very standardized; rather, there is an agreement between the student and the teacher about the content. Individual interests can therefore be easily pursued; stylistically, jazz composition is defined as broadly as possible. Playing in an ensemble is also part of the curriculum, as a separation between the roles of performer and composer is hardly part of jazz practice.
Students
There are around 1-2 places available for study per year. Most of the students have previously completed an instrumental jazz bachelor's degree. In addition to an interest in composing and arranging, experience and a certain list of works are also prerequisites for admission to the course.
Profession
The graduates often compose – and probably without exception on a freelance basis – for their own artistic projects. They also write arrangements for choirs, big bands and other ensembles. Possible activities also include producing music for theater, film and television. The compositional work is predominantly linked to management tasks or instrumental playing.
