Preparatory Studies / Bridge Studies

Adolescents who are not yet able to start a regular course of study because they are still attending general education schools can be admitted to preparatory studies until they begin their regular studies, if they possess an exceptional musical talent and demonstrate special aptitude in their chosen main subject.

Admission is for one year and can be extended each year. Admission can only be granted if the teaching capacity of the university allows it. There is no legal entitlement to admission.

Adolescents in preparatory studies have the opportunity to attend special classes in music theory, ear training, minor subject piano, and chamber music in addition to classes in their main artistic subject. Enrollment for the minor subject piano takes place at the student secretariat before the start of each semester.

In case the entrance exam coincides with final school exams, one can also apply for the Bridge Studies. Applications for the Bridge Studies must be submitted during the school period, i.e. before completing school. The Bridge Studies serve as a link between preparatory studies and the entrance exam for a bachelor's degree program. Admission can be granted for a maximum of 2 semesters.
