With impulses, reflections and materials in piano pedagogy (From Sketch to Picture, Music from the Very Beginning, teaching piano in groups, 1 2 3 KLAVIER, ... again and again newly accompanied, Notentafel mit Köpfchen), pilot studies on Skilled Piano Performance (voicing), research at the interface of pianism–music physiology–musicians’ medicine (causes of PRMD, risky angles), as a founding member of the Zurich Center for Musicians' Hands (2009) and head of the SIRIUS 6.0 Future Initiative at the HMDK Stuttgart (2020), Ulrike Wohlwender is one of the most versatile piano didacticians in the German-speaking world, with resonance and publications also in the Netherlands, USA, Brazil, South Korea, Japan and China.
The central concern of her university teaching is a future-oriented development of piano pedagogy in the interplay of practice relevance, artistic aspiration and scientific foundation.
Ulrike Wohlwender (*1962) grew up in Schopfheim/Southern Black Forest. Via private lessons, music school, Jugend musiziert, music and theater experiences in Basel (Switzerland), double degree in Piano (Prof. Helmut Vogel) and Elementary Music Pedagogy (Prof. Maria Rebhahn) in Mannheim including Postgraduate Piano Studies (Prof. Barbara Fry) her path led her to Southern Hesse where she worked for 26 years as head of the piano department at the Lampertheim Music School. The piano method book 1 2 3 KLAVIER (1995/1997) has grown there in collaboration with Claudia Ehrenpreis. Since 1996, Ulrike Wohlwender is a member of the piano didactics working group Saarbrücker Gespräche (Germany). From 1997, she taught piano methodology at the MuHo Mannheim. In 2010, she was appointed Professor of Piano Pedagogy at the HMDK Stuttgart.
She owes essential inspiration in her musical-pianistic-pedagogical-scientific career to her 14-year collaboration with Prof. Dr. Christoph Wagner (founder of music physiology in Hanover) and to Prof. Dr. Martin Widmaier (Piano/Piano Didactics, a.o. Differential Learning). Together with Silvia Molan, she founded the Sirius 6.0 Future Initiative at the HMDK Stuttgart in 2020.
