Dr. Daniel Fiedler is a junior professor of music education at the Stuttgart University of Music and Performing Arts. Previously, he was a lecturer at Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg (FAU) and a postdoctoral researcher at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU), Lübeck University of Music, and Freiburg University of Education, where he earned his doctorate in 2018 with a thesis on factors influencing musical development in school students (summa cum laude).
In his research, he combines music education and music psychology to understand how people experience, learn, and develop musically. His focus is on self-concept in music, motivation, emotions, and music-related competencies, as well as the professionalization of (pre-service) music teachers. He has received several awards for his work, most recently the Publication Prize from the Department of Didactics at FAU (2024). Besides his academic pursuits, he has also been active as a conductor and instrumental teacher for many years.
