Investiture of President Axel Köhler
Axel Köhler – the Culture Whisperer
Companions, friends, supporters, colleagues from the cultural, political, and social spheres, as well as students, celebrated with Axel Köhler in the concert hall on April 10, his investiture as President of HMDK Stuttgart after 100 days in office. The speakers described him as open, approachable, attentive, and moderating, and as an excellent networker. Chairwoman of the University Council, Prof. Dr. Herta Däubler-Gmelin, outlined the challenges of the application process and expressed happiness in finding the "ideal candidate." State Secretary Arne Braun, in addition to highlighting the major upcoming tasks in digitalization, climate protection, and social cohesion, referred to him as the "perfect choice." The Chairman of the university's support association, Dr. Stefan Völker, praised his rhetorical skills. Julian Diepolder, a student of speech art, thanked the interim rectorate on behalf of the student body for the past two years without a "president" and looks forward to the collaborative process with the new "face" of HMDK. "You are one of us," is the commitment of Vice-President Prof. Dr. Hendrikje Mautner-Obst, representing the rectorate, during the initial phase. She, along with the faculty, is convinced that Axel Köhler, as an outstanding networker, will do everything possible to provide the students with the best education. Axel Köhler himself is fascinated by the exceptional characteristics of the university, "the performing arts in their full breadth, the diversity of the educational offerings that inspire him, and the horizon-expanding State Center 'Campus Present.'" In his inaugural speech, Köhler manages to connect with all university bodies, sponsors, supporters, and politicians, highlight relationships, clearly identify strengths, challenges, and necessary change processes. His own career path as a singer, director, intendant, and president benefits him at this juncture. He integrates into the university network, is part of everything, and wants to fill the Stuttgart university with life and ideas together as a team. He considers it important to have an impact on society, give back, advance the transfer of knowledge, and intensify social dialogue. The artistic program contributions of the students and teachers, positioned intensively around the speeches, showcased a wide range and artistic excellence, making the investiture an unforgettable evening.
