Help with sexual ha­rass­ment, discri­mi­na­ti­on, and violence

In all social contexts, especially in the workplace, it can happen that women and men are affected by sexual harassment. Most of its members consider the university as a place of enlightened, emancipated coexistence, where incidents like sexual assaults cannot occur. However, the university is no less a place of such harassment than other societal areas. Due to its hierarchical structure, existing dependency relationships can be exploited, promoting boundary violations and inappropriate advances. Defending against assaults is often difficult as they can be disguised as unintentional actions and easily denied or dismissed as fantasies or misunderstandings if confronted. Victims who resist also often fear negative consequences such as hostility, harassment, or discrimination, turning them into double victims. This is what needs to be prevented. Protection against sexual harassment has been legally regulated since 2006 in the General Equal Treatment Act (AGG). Employers have the obligation to protect employees from sexual harassment. It is part of the self-image of the University of Music and Performing Arts Stuttgart to provide secure study and work conditions, and to create a collegial atmosphere where everyone can develop their talents and expand their skills without fear or restriction. Therefore, sexual harassment is under no circumstances tolerated at the University of Music and Performing Arts Stuttgart and is accordingly sanctioned.
