For students at a music and arts college, there are many opportunities to not only earn money through their own artistic skills but also to gain practical experience.
For all students, there is the possibility to post notices on the bulletin boards in the lobby - our bulletin board.
We recommend that you contact the artist agency and register in the artist database there. The goal of this agency is to connect students, graduates, and faculty of the HMDK Stuttgart for artistic engagements at various events. Register not only as a solo artist but also as a member of a chamber music ensemble to increase your chances of being booked for a performance.
For students in advanced semesters and/or with initial teaching experience, there is the option to send out self-initiated applications to music schools (municipal or private). You can find all municipal music schools on the website of the Association of German Music Schools, under "State Associations". Private music schools can be found under German Association of Private Music Schools.
For information on what should be included in an application portfolio, how to format a cover letter, and other tips related to application/presentation, you can contact Simone Enge, who leads the Career Service (Willy-Brandt-Straße 8, Room W8-02.06) at HMDK Stuttgart.
If you receive student financial aid (BaföG) or child benefits, be mindful of the income limits, as they can affect your eligibility for these benefits!
A maximum of €4,800 gross income is allowed over the entire funding period (12 months), or an average of €400 gross per month for BaföG recipients (singles without children).
The same applies to scholarships. Performance- and talent-based scholarships remain exempt up to € 300 per month, and the conversion to a monthly average is applicable for non-monthly scholarship payments.
