Erasmus+
The "European Action Scheme for the Mobility of University Students", or "ERASMUS" for short, is a European Union funding programme for students who would like to spend a semester abroad in one of the 34 countries offered.
But what exactly is the ERASMUS+ programme? Nowadays, many degree programmes include a semester abroad. The whole world is theoretically open to them, but most students from Germany opt for a semester in a European country. Why? Because the unique funding opportunities in the ERASMUS programme make studying abroad relatively easy! The ‘+’ is a reminder that the programme supports more areas than just higher education, as was the case in its early days.
The following mobility measures are funded under the EU education programme Erasmus+:
- Study abroad for students (SMS)
- Internships abroad for students (SMP)
- Staff mobility (teaching & administration: STA/STT)
Special funding
Erasmus+ aims to promote equal opportunities and inclusion, which is why access to the programme is made easier for learners from disadvantaged backgrounds and with special needs. More information can be found here.
