World Café
A needs assessment among all students on 22.05.2023
In a very optimistic mood, the extensive needs analysis in the field of "Health & Prevention" among students of all departments took place on 22.05.2023 from 09:00–13:00 in Café Tempus.
In two rounds, 45 students (each with about 3–4 representatives from their departments) were thoroughly interviewed about their needs in the area of Health & Prevention and discussed together which offers are already perceived as very valuable within the framework of their studies.
The aim of the event was to derive health-promoting measures for students of all target groups at HMDK.
In the plenary session, after 4 hours of workshop work, the results were presented by the students themselves - the entire process and conclusions of that day were captured by visualization artist Siegfried Bütefisch.
The then Chancellor Mr. Wörle-Himmel was also a guest and listened with interest to the results at the end, thanking for the openness of the feedback.
The results were then recorded in a detailed document and now serve as further working basis for the analysis working group to derive targeted measures. Two more sessions were held in the SoSe 2023 together with Mr. Wörle-Himmel.
The following optimization potentials have emerged across universities:
- Physical health & presence
- Desire for integration of the Health/Prevention module in the elective area of all Bachelor's and Master's study programs
- Performance and pressure of expectations
- Communication & feedback culture
- Room situation and equipment
- Fears about the future and existence
- Organization / Time management
The first implementation was already noticeable in the choice of topics for the course for school musicians held at Kapfenburg at the end of September 2023. Here, topics such as dealing with and the opportunities of versatility, burn-out prevention, mental health, dealing with stress, silence and meditation were consciously taken into account.
Discussions are also underway on how to make use of the university sports offerings, a group has been formed to address the topic of "places of rest," and the exchange with Career Service is being further promoted. Ideas like cross-institute concerts and "(prelude) parties" have partly already been implemented in the so-called prelude/singing training (new in WS 23/24) and the topic of hearing protection is also being further addressed. This is just a small excerpt of the topics that the Student Health Management, together with students and the university management, is addressing. At the start of the semester, there was also an overview of existing measures on a newly created information sheet, which quickly shows which offers are already immediately usable.
Further results or measures will now be filtered out, jointly planned, and implemented in WS 23/24.
A warm thank you to all students who helped prepare the World Café in the analysis working group through detailed sessions, as well as to the students who then joined additionally in the World Café and constructively created new possibilities!
Also, thanks to the organizers and moderators Antonia Emde (HMDK), Christine Breitbach (on behalf of TK), Martin Beck (TK), Sina Hoch (gailus.org), Ulrike Wohlwender (HMDK), Mareike Riegert (HMDK), and Alexandra Müller (HMDK), and to the visualizer Sigi Bütefisch for the smooth preparation and implementation of the event!
