Tanja Spatz started working as a lecturer for music theory and ear training at the HMDK Stuttgart in 2022. One focus of her activities concerns methodical questions about teaching at the university context and pre-university sectors. This also includes dealing with the integration of digital tools and resulted, among other things, in the third-party funded development of KoALa (together with Moritz Heffter)
In addition to teaching, research plays a major role in her work as a music theorist. Her doctoral thesis (in progress, at the HfM Freiburg supervised by Prof. Dr. Ludwig Holtmeier) deals with the hybridization of theory and teaching traditions in thoroughbass treatises from the second half of the 18th century. The focus is on John Casper Heck's writings published in London.
For Tanja Spatz, playing music builds the ground for (musical) learning, teaching and research; and is also an important part of her musical vita in form of concert performances, e.g. choral projects (as choir director and/or accompanist).
