Percussionensemble
The percussionensemble of the HMDK Stuttgart was founded in 1982 by Prof. Klaus Treßelt as the Percussion Ensemble Stuttgart and has since existed in varying line-ups of advanced students and alumni from the Stuttgart percussion class.
Using exotic drums, cymbals, gongs, and other percussion instruments from around the world, the ensemble presents a variety of programs, ranging from transcriptions of baroque originals to African drum music and theatrical finger ballet, to classic percussion ensemble literature.
Under the guidance of their instructors Marta Klimasara, Klaus Dreher, and Jürgen Spitschka, the students are active in varying ensembles. In addition to percussion programs, they also perform as a percussion group in other settings, such as the Contemporary Music Ensemble, string orchestra, or in large symphonic works.
In recent years, the young percussionists have participated in co-productions with the Stuttgart Ballet, the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra, and the Gauthier Dance Group. They have also performed at international festivals in Valencia, Spain, Italy, and Costa Rica, as well as at the Ludwigsburg Palace Festival. With their TalkingDrums program, the ensemble regularly performs in southern Germany, appearing at events such as the Oberstdorf Music Summer, the Black Forest Music Festival, the Music at Filseck Castle Festival, and the Upper Swabian Music Festival Weeks.
