  • On 04.12.2025 from 10-13 o'clock, Senate Hall, For administration and teaching.

Lecture and Workshop by Dr. Jennifer Chan de Avila on the topic Menopause in the Workplace.

Menopause is a formative phase of life that affects one's professional life physically, mentally, and emotionally. However, the topic remains taboo in the work context. This morning session brings menopause into focus, provides in-depth knowledge, and opens up space for exchange and strategies. The first part offers an awareness lecture that explains the basics, dimensions, and impacts of menopause in the workplace and provides impulses for more openness and a menopause-friendly corporate culture. The subsequent workshop for individuals in perimenopause or menopause involves sharing experiences, imparting self-care impulses, and collectively developing strategies to constructively manage the challenges of this phase of life in the professional environment.

Dr. Jennifer Chan de Avila is a political scientist specializing in gender, intersectionality, and body politics, as well as a trained menopause doula. She is a co-author of the book Menopause in the Workplace: Action Concept for an Innovative Company Health Management (Transcript, 2025) and a German expert in the international standardization project ISO 45010. Through her work, she connects research, practice, and support to make menopause visible in the work context and shape it constructively.

The lecture and workshop "Menopause in the Workplace" at HMDK Stuttgart on 4.12.2025 was overall enjoyable, lively, vivid, and empowering. We felt addressed, engaged, and supported. The exchange with powerful and humorous women was very beneficial – we need more of that! The need for exchange is significant, and awareness is an important first step. More empathy regarding the topic from leaders would be valuable.

  • Action Day 27.11.2025, HMDK Stuttgart

KUNST.MACHT.MENSCHLICHKEIT.

A nationwide Action Day of the 24 state music conservatories. On November 27, 2025, we jointly set a clear sign against discrimination and abuse of power. Each conservatory designs this day individually, but the goal is shared: to make music conservatories places of respectful interaction and mutual trust.

  • 27. & 28.03.2025, each 10–18 o'clock, Willy-Brandt-Str. 8, Room 306

max. 20 participants

Workshop: Seeing through what's happening

Negotiation training and speaker: Anja Henningsmeyer
An offer of equality for employees and students

The two days build on each other. Please indicate in your registration if you can attend both days. In case of high demand, priority will be given to individuals who can participate on both days.

In both career and life, we do not get what we deserve, but what we negotiate. To advance one's own concerns, it also takes courage to confront conflict and negotiation skills. This seminar offers participants professional strategies and individual inspirations.

Because beyond strategies, tactics, and arguments, a deeper understanding of conflict conversations helps to keep your head high in difficult negotiations – or to gracefully exit. So that you not only enter negotiations more confidently but also keep your head high in challenging situations.

In addition, participants gain insights into neurobiological research findings, insights from gender communication, and professional methods that significantly enhance their negotiation skills.
The goal is to be able to assert oneself in male-dominated contexts with ease.

Using densely composed scenes from film examples, we sharpen our view on negotiation situations: how emotions are steered and where pitfalls lurk. Through dialogues and role-playing, we practically test our skills.
