    Fulbright Scholarship

The German-American Fulbright Scholarship - as a scholarship of excellence - enables cross-border international understanding through academic exchange. The programmes for German students and graduates of universities and universities of applied sciences who wish to study at an American university for a shorter or longer period of time and who wish to contribute to German-American cultural exchange can be viewed at the International Office.

For the American academic year 2022/2023, the Fulbright Commission invites applications for travel grants to study in the USA between December 2021 and February 2022. The funding is aimed at German students at universities and universities of applied sciences who arrange and (partially) finance their study visit to the USA through a German-American university partnership programme. Here we target institutional exchange agreements made bilaterally directly between the HMDK and an American partner institution.

    Fulbright Study Scholarship

Application deadline for the next academic year is expected to be published in May 2023.

Subject-qualified HMDK students and alumni interested in transatlantic dialogue are invited to apply for a Fulbright Study Scholarship for the academic year 2023/24.

Those who would like to study at a US university as a graduate student for four to nine months in the academic year 2023/24 can now apply for a study scholarship from the Fulbright Commission.

Scholarship holders are supported with up to $34,500 and admission to the Fulbright network. The application deadline is 21 August 2022.

Here are the key facts about the scholarship programme:

Undergraduate and graduate students of all subjects who wish to study one or two semesters at the graduate school of a US university. In addition to good academic performance, the selection criteria include social commitment and the potential to work for transatlantic relations.
Applicants must have a Bachelor's degree or have successfully completed at least 6 semesters in the Diplom, Magister and Staatsexamen programmes by August 2023 at the latest.
We would be particularly pleased to receive applications from candidates who, in addition to their academic achievements, are also distinguished by their social commitment and who deal with topics of digital change in the context of their studies and thus make a contribution to the promotion of democracy.

The scholarship offers up to $34,500 in financial support for nine months of study at a graduate school in the USA, as well as advice and support from Fulbright Germany and our US partners and admission to the global Fulbright network. If the duration of the scholarship is shorter (at least four months), it will be calculated on a pro-rata basis.

The scholarship application occurs online using the application form in the Fulbright Foreign Student Program.

Application deadline for the next academic year is expected to be published in May 2023.

In a first selection step, the applications will be professionally assessed by independent reviewers. Applicants nominated by the reviewers will be invited to group interviews. After that, we will inform the applicants by email about the outcome of the selection.
