Fulbright Scholarships
As the only bi-national exchange organisation in Germany with a focus on the USA, the Fulbright Commission awards around 700 scholarships annually for study, research, teaching and further education stays in the USA and Germany and thus aims to actively promote transatlantic exchange. A basic distinction is made between study scholarships and travel scholarships.
Study Scholarships
Description
Study Scholarships support three- to nine-month study visits at Master's level beginning in August/September 2024 and are completed in full-time.
Benefits
- Reimbursement of the application fee at the final host university.
- Funding for living expenses and (part of) tuition fees totalling up to US$ 34,500 for 9 months and up to US$ 15,300 for 4 months respectively
- Travel allowance of 1,400 euros for transatlantic travel to and from the host university
- Incidental expenses allowance of 600 euros (as a one-time subsidy for test fees and initial costs at the beginning of the stay)
- Free issuance of the Fulbright visa
- US health and accident insurance
- Preparation and networking seminars
- Admission to the worldwide Fulbright Network
- Advice from Fulbright Germany and its US partners
Target group
- Students and recent graduates (up to two years after graduation) of all subjects at State-Accredited Universities and Colleges of the Arts (Colleges of Music) may apply to enroll at an accredited U.S. host university as a full-time student beginning Fall Term 2024 for a minimum of one term (or two quarters).
Application process
- The application deadline for the academic year 2024/2025 is September 8th, 2023.
- Applications must be submitted directly to Fulbright Germany.

Travel grants
Description
Travel scholarships are intended to help cover travel costs of a USA exchange with a lump sum of 2,000 €.
Benefits
- Funding of travel expenses with a lump sum of €2,000.
- Participation in the preparatory and networking meeting of German and American Fulbright scholarship holders.
- Support for the scholarship holders.
- Admission to the network of Fulbright Germany scholarship holders and alumni.
Application procedure
- The application procedure for the academic year 2023/24 has ended.
- The next application deadline for the academic year 2024/25 is February 1st, 2024.
- Applications must be submitted by sending the complete application documents to the International Office by e-mail to

- A central selection procedure takes place.
- Notification of scholarship nominations is usually made at the end of March of the year in which the application deadline expires.
