Since the beginning of his musical career, he has been involved in classical double bass playing in orchestral and chamber music, as well as jazz and pop bass playing. He has won first prizes at "Jugend musiziert" and "Jugend Jazzt". He studied double bass in Stuttgart with Ulrich Lau, and in Vienna, Copenhagen, and New York with Ludwig Streicher, Niels-Henning Øersted Pedersen, Gary Karr, and Ron Carter. He also studied electric bass with Abraham Laboriel and Alphonso Johnson. After engagements with the RSO Stuttgart and as a solo bassist with the Württemberg Chamber Orchestra Heilbronn, he worked as a bassist and manager with the Stuttgarter Kammerorchester from 1993 to 2006. From 2006 to 2009, he was the solo bassist in the orchestra of the Ludwigsburger Schlossfestspiele. He performs with various chamber music ensembles such as the Carmina Quartet Zurich, Bach Collegium Stuttgart, Wolfgang Meyer, and the Opus 8 Piano Trio. In the jazz-pop field, he has played with artists such as Les McCann, Phillip Catherine, Laurie Anderson, Stephane Grapelli, and more.
He has been teaching at the Institute for Jazz and Pop at the University of Music and the Performing Arts Stuttgart since 1997. He has conducted workshops at the universities of music in Seoul, Sydney, and Paris. He is a founder of the "Popbüro Region Stuttgart" and was its artistic director from 2003 to 2007. He initiated the "Jazz für Kinder" series in Baden-Württemberg in 2006. In the same year, he founded the "BIX Jazz Club Stuttgart" and has been its artistic director since then. From 2008 to 2022, he was part of the artistic direction of the "Jazzopen" in Stuttgart. Since 2022, he has been the managing partner of XJazz Holding in Berlin. He is actively involved in cultural politics, serving as a member of the executive board of the Landesmusikrat Baden-Württemberg, the executive board of the Jazzverband Baden-Württemberg, and the "Bundeskonferenz Jazz" in Berlin.
