Verbreiterungsfach Jazz & Popular Music

Anyone who envisions school as a place where music can be experienced in all its diversity likely thinks of formats such as jazz combos, cover bands, musical clubs, or big bands, which are styles of popular music. Students also desire such offerings.

This study program provides the necessary tools for that.

The students receive an additional 60 minutes of major subject instruction from the teachers at the Institute of Jazz & Pop. In ensembles and courses on jazz theory, they study alongside jazz musicians. The broadening subject Jazz and Pop can be studied in place of an academic subject and is a full-fledged second subject. Combined with the Bachelor Teaching Degree Program - Music Education, it allows students to focus entirely on music.

The study of the broadening subject can begin concurrently with the Bachelor of Education, but due to its duration of six semesters, it must start no later than the third semester. In the Master Education Teaching Degree Program, the broadening subject spans an additional two semesters.

As an extension master's program
The broadening subject can also be studied as a "third subject," alongside music at the HMDK and the academic subject at the university. As such, it can also be started later than the third semester.
