    First ever Baden Württemberg Convention of Opera Institutes

    The fascinating power of opera will be front and center for a whole week at the first ever Baden Württemberg Convention of Opera Institutes in Stuttgart. All five summer productions of the Opera Institutes of Freiburg, Karlsruhe, Mannheim, Stuttgart and Trossingen Schools of Music will be presented at the Wilhelma Theater – ranging adventurously from Italian baroque to three classics of modern opera, from pasticcio to world premières, from intimate chamber opera to  spectacular digital multimedia theater.

    A parallel program of top level masterclasses will take place in important venues of the Stuttgart School of Music and the Performing Arts – with singers of international stature such as Angela Denoke, Barbara Frittoli, Doris Soffel, Natale de Carolis and Rainer Trost, world famous conductors Fabio Luisi and Cornelius Meister, the renowned operetta specialist Adam Benzwi and directors Vasily Barkhatov and Stefan Herheim.

    Panels and and lectures with Dominique Meyer, the director of the Vienna State Opera, as well as important experts of the current world of opera – shows the excellent standard training of musical performance in Baden-Württemberg and provides a vibrant forum to discuss current tendencies and future developments in the world of opera.

    • Stefan Herheim gives a three-day master class, staging scenes from Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro
    • Russian director Vasily Barkhatov works on scenes from Yevgeni Onegin
    • Adam Benzwi (Komische Oper Berlin) and Dr. Kevin Clarke (Operetta Research Center Amsterdam) will present innovative perspectives on operetta
    • Dominique Meyer, director of the Vienna State Opera, discusses current developments in the international opera world
    • GMD Fabio Luisi (Zurich Opera House) and GMD Cornelius Meister (Stuttgart State Opera) will work on opera ensembles
    • Josef E. Köpplinger (General Director State Theatre on Gärtnerplatz), Stefan Herheim (designated Artistic Director of the Theater an der Wien) and Erich Seitter (Casting Consultant, Vienna) will discuss the music theater business of the 21st century
    • Prof. Angelika Luz (HMDK Stuttgart) presents an evening of contemporary music theater
    • Masterclasses with Angela Denoke, Doris Soffel, Barbara Frittoli, Natale de Carolis and Rainer Trost will introduce students to the highest technical and interpretive standards, focusing on German and Italian repertoire.

    The convention of opera institutes is under the patronage of the Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann.
